On the road to recovery!

Hi, if you read my bio you know that we went to see Dr. Dave, the specialist in Missoula, MT the other day. He is a really nice guy.
He looked at my x-rays, listened to my heart and stuck his finger down my throat. Ugh! Gag me literally.
Dr. Dave spoke to mom and dad for a little bit and said that he was no going to send the “scope” down my throat, PHEW!!!!
It looks like I my either have some type of allergy or that my immune system is somewhat suppressed.
I am on Prednisone, we are in the tapering off period at the moment, but after mom gave me the first pill, the next morning and thereafter no coughing so far.
Now that we have hopefully conquered my gagging spells, it will be time for me to be spayed like the rest of our pack. They are all spayed & neutered. Mom says there are too many fur kids like me out there in need of loving forever homes, let alone the health benefits to being spayed or neutered.
It’s time to run and play with the rest of the pack!

Recognize and Beat Canine Compulsive Disorder
Canine compulsive disorder (CCD) affects many breeds. The most susceptible seem to be the hunting breeds. Other breeds that may suffer from these afflictions would be the working class dogs. Genetic predisposition is a major factor in whether a dog might develop canine obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Why did this happen?
Good breeders have done their best to breed this problem out of their pedigree. Unfortunately, we still live in a society where many dogs come from “puppy mills” that care little if anything about breeding out undesirable traits. I was a “puppy mill” dog. I have a severe under bite along with a pee pee problem and I am a shadow & light chaser.
Most canine compulsive disorders are brought on by boredom. Other may manifest themselves through stress. To treat the compulsion, you must treat the cause. If you are simply looking for a house pet then hunting and working breeds are probably a poor choice. [Read more →]

Summer’s Here! Beat the heat.

Today is the first day of summer! It sure is finally getting warm here in the Bitterroot Valley.
Since I lived in South Florida and I am the older, wiser one of the pack, I volunteered to do this post.
Here are some ways to help you fur kids beat the heat this summer.
Leaving us in a vehicle is bad news
NEVER, EVER leave us in a vehicle. Especially with the windows only partially rolled down. It gets very hot in a short amount of time. The same goes for leaving us in the back of a pick up truck where we can literally roast in the hot sun. Last summer a person who had put their fur kid in a plastic traveling crate (while safe for the pup, he couldn’t jump out of the truck) and parked his truck in the sun for just a little bit, they said. The person rushed the limp, blue tongued, overheated fur baby into the vet clinic where mom works. His body temp was 105 and rising! They put an ice pack on his head and gave him a very long cold shower and then placed him on oxygen. He lived, but this can be prevented. [Read more →]

Bio’s are complete!
Boy the fur is really flying around here.
We have all be busy doing our bio’s and it sure has been hard to get some “computer time” with everyone running to the keyboard to get their’s done. Well, mom thought they were done. Some of us want additional pictures put on our pages, so mom is running around trying to find which photo albums they are in!
Mom is really busy today. She is baking some dog biscuits for our Freckled Paws Biscuits and More customers. Honestly, I can’t wait until they come out of the oven and cool down. They are the best!
Mom told me to let everyone know you need to keep checking out our site. We truly hope you are enjoying it and would love to hear from you.
